Being married isn’t always easy, and more often than not you might find yourself dealing with a situation that you cannot handle on your own but are required to. If you’ve recently found out that your husband cheated on you, you are probably going through a rollercoaster of emotions, but don’t worry it’ll all pan out once you sort out your thoughts. The first thing you should try to grasp is your final decision, is his unfaithfulness the last straw? Do you want to break off your marriage and become a single mom because your husband made a mistake? Or are you willing to forgive him and start working on your marriage as though it were your main priority. Knowing that your husband cheated will make you want to scream, but how long will it take you to get over it and forgive him?
Cheating and forgiveness need to be addressed in order to move on. When my husband cheated on me, I knew that I had to get all the details of the affair if I ever wanted to forgive him. When I asked him about the cheating, he told me that it had only happened once and that he had felt so guilty that he told me about it right away. This instantly made me feel as though there was chance of forgiveness. I never asked who it was he cheated with because Hamilton is a small town and I would rather not know who the culprit is, having to forgive one person is bad enough, right?
Having too much pride is often why people are unhappy in life, but still I couldn’t find a way to get rid of my pride and forgive my husband for cheating. I knew how to forgive a cheater, but I didn’t want everyone knowing that I had been cheated on and been too weak to get a divorce. However, I soon realised that I didn’t care what others thought of me and wanted to remain the way we were, but better.
At first I thought that I should forgive my husband for the sake of our family, but I later realised that I needed to forgive him for my sake as well. Since I had been married to him for a long time, and I knew he was a good man, I didn’t mind sticking by him despite his mishap, and I certainly didn’t want to break up our family when our children were still young. I decided to forgive my husband in order to live a happier life, and I haven’t looked back since.
